A stencil is just clean, bold outlines — the shapes you'll cut, paint, etch, or cut from vinyl. PrintReady's Line art style traces a photo into those outlines and prints them at the exact size you need.
When this works best
High-contrast subjects with clear shapes — a face, an animal, a logo, a plant — give the crispest stencils. Busy, low-contrast photos need more tuning (see the Line-art tips guide).
Step 1 — Upload and switch to Line art
Drop your photo in, then choose the Line art style. You'll see the outlines appear in the preview.
Step 2 — Tune the lines
Adjust the controls until the shapes read cleanly:
- Detail — lower keeps only the big shapes (simpler stencil); higher catches fine features.
- Strength and Sensitivity — raise Sensitivity to connect broken lines; raise Strength to drop noise.
- Line thickness — thicken the outlines so thin bridges survive cutting.
Step 3 — Vectorize for crisp edges (optional, Pro)
Turn on Vectorize so the outlines stay razor-sharp at any size — ideal for vinyl cutters and large stencils. You can also export the outlines as an SVG.
Step 4 — Set the size and download
Set the finished width, then download the PDF (print at 100% / Actual Size) or the SVG for a cutting machine.
What to expect
Line art gives you outlines, not shading — think coloring-book lines, not a grayscale photo. If a stencil needs "islands" to hold together (like the centre of an O), keep Line thickness up and simplify with lower Detail so the bridges stay connected.
